The Reefs reminiscent of the Italian Riviera lies on small Christian Bay so like a Hollywood stage set that one hardly believes it is true. There is nothing but the wide sea of brilliant jade and blue for a backdrop. St Alban's Daily Messenger, 1949

{HISTORY}

In the 1940s, when you want to escape the cold winter weather by heading to a nearby tropical paradise, you went to The Reefs - Bermuda's pink sand beach hotel located in a private palm tree-dotted cove on the South Shore. Owned and operated by the Dodwell family, The Reefs have continued to welcome guests to their native island since 1947.

Fun on two fronts, this dish represents not only an exotic port of call, but also the glamorous age of air travel when Americans were just beginning to dip their feet into traveling to far-flung destinations. Bermuda was a sure bet for intrepid travelers but also for new adventurers as it was just a few hours away via airplane from the East Coast making it both convenient and quick to whisk your sweetheart away for the weekend or take your family on a hassle-free tropical holiday.

This vintage shell-shaped ceramic dish features the hotel's iconic image and logo edged in a tropical shade of pink hibiscus, A fun reminder of the tropical adventure that made memories built to last for decades, this dish could have adorned tables in a variety of ways - perhaps delighting diners with seafood salad, bedside chocolate, a fresh flower at morning coffee, a teacart accessory for afternoon relaxation, you get the idea.  Ideally sized nowadays, it's great for use as a prep bowl, an hors d'oeuvres tray, a soap dish or a whimsical place to keep your jewelry clean and tidy while you cook.
