The coniferous forest of the Sierra are the grandest and most beautiful in the world, and grow in a delightful climate on the most interesting and accessible of mountain ranges... John Muir

{HISTORY}

Published in cooperation with Yosemite National Park, Sequoia Natural Forest and the National Park Service, this fascinating guidebook detailing all the coniferous trees found in the Sierra Nevada mountains is beautifully presented.

Written by Stephen Arno, an expert in forestry research and illustrated by California artist Jane Gyer (1925-2004), Discovering Sierra Trees is an art book, a naturalist guide and a fun fact compendium all rolled into one.

Highlighting the physical attributes, the growth systems, the native landscape, the location, and the personalities of 26 types of trees found in this part of the country, Stephen poetically weaves together factual information with lyrical nature writing that engages readers from page one.  Including quotes by John Muir that describe the majesty of the landscape and the trees in it, Stephen's goal for this publication along with that of the national park systems was to draw attention to and celebrate the natural beauty of this rugged landscape, so that appreciation and conservation methods could further promote and protect this wild wonderland for generations to come.

Fun for naturalists, campers, outdoor enthusiasts, and anyone in love with the fascinating stories surrounding trees, this book is a lovely addition to cabin decor, nature libraries and scientific collections.
