{HISTORY}

Made in England, these vintage double egg cups feature the prettiest shade of pastel green.  Not quite mint and not quite sage, they most resemble celadon when it comes to color and they are just as large as a juice tumbler when it comes to size. 

Marked only with an England stamp on the interior of the small end, we suspect that W.H. Grindley made them possibly for the hotel industry, as they are similar to others manufactured by them both in size and stamping.

Two-sided for whichever style of egg and type you prefer - duck or chicken, soft-boiled in shell or unshelled - these sturdy cups also make great vases for petite table centerpieces too. Originally the large end of a double egg cup was used for soft-boiled eggs that were de-shelled before serving and augmented with bacon, herbs or toast sticks for presentation. But incidentally, the well of the big end is deep enough to hold a short bouquet, a single blossom, or a succulent or two.

The small end of the cup was always used for traditional soft-boiled eggs served in-shell and cracked at the table, although much smaller tin size than the other end they are just the right size to hold an air plant. We like to use vintage double egg cups like this on the big as a mini bucket to keep fresh-cut herbs hydrated and in sturdy shape during cooking prep, while the small end makes a great holder for premeasured spices. 

Classic, simple and elegant in design, these three effortlessly fit in with a wide range of  antique, midcentury modern, or contemporary dish collections.

{CONDITION}

In beautiful vintage condition, these egg cups contain no chips, cracks or staining. You might notice a couple very tiny dimples on one cup and assume they might be chips, but they are not. They are all under glaze marks caused during the manufacturing process.

Each cup measures 4.25" inches (height) x 2.75" inches (diameter of duck egg end) x 2" inches (diameter of chicken egg end) and weighs 6 oz.
