From the pastoral landscape of historic New England comes this vintage 1940s-era glass milk bottle.

Named after a piece of property owned by Rollin Woodruff (1854-1925), Connecticut's 62nd Governor, Rollwood Farm was an active, working dairy and agriculture farm located in Guilford, CT from the late 1800s to the later half of the 20th century.

Known for their Guernsey and Brown Swiss dairy cows, Rollwood Farm also raised turkeys, chickens, pigs, sheep, and draft horses and grew a number of different crops including acres of corn. While the farm changed hands several times throughout the 20th century, it was always well known for its dairy operations, providing milk to the local community along with poultry, eggs and corn. 

This glass Rollwood Farm jug dates to the 1940s-1950s era and was a multi-purpose storage container for milk, water, and juice. Originally a paper cap would have accompanied this jar, fitting over over the opening as a makeshift seal for no-spill hygenic pickup and delivery services right from the farm. Not all vintage glass milk jars come with custom markings, but this one does. It features the farm name, location and phone number stamped in green on the front and the following info on the back...

With its 64 oz size and unusual rainbow-style striped design on the front and back, this is a hard-to-find glass milk bottle from a well-renowned but now lost-to-time New England dairy. While the farm itself is no longer in operation,  two of Rollwood's big dairy barns (see vintage photo) were salvaged, renovated and repurposed for use as a children's center, and 30 acres of Rollwood farmland is now used as local fairgrounds.

So fun for farmhouse decor, this glass bottle makes a great serving pitcher, storage jar or vase for big bouquets of garden flowers.

In wonderful vintage condition, this bottle contains no chips, cracks or scratches. The letting is crisp and clear on both the front and the back and the glass is clear and shiny throughout.
