{HISTORY}

Oh the oak tree! There is nothing more grand in nature than a beautiful oak and the leaves it sheds. The national tree of the United States, the Oak is as prized a member of interior design as it is of the American landscape. Strong, sturdy, big and billowing, the Oak trees live for hundreds of years, symbolizing strength, endurance, tradition and legacy in all forms.

With an average life span of 250 years, oak trees have served numerous functions in the kitchen throughout history whether it be in the form of handmade furniture and tools or whimsical iconography on decorative wares ranging from linens to art. 

This set of four metal oak leaves was made in the 1980's by Homco, a woman-led giftware company started in Texas in the 1960's.  Like any good American entrepreneur story, Homco started small but grew into a multi-million dollar company over three decades selling primarily gifts and interior decor products. 

Originally these leaves were meant as wall hangings, grouped together or individually, some accompanied by branches, some without.  In addition to that original intent, these beautiful leaves also offer other possibilities for our modern landscape. Attach them to your Autumn wreath and welcome in a new season, incorporate them into your tablescape display for your Thanksgiving dinner party, run vintage linens through the center underneath and turn them into impromptu napkin rings or tie them to chubby pillar candles for festive Fall decor. Anyway you style them, these classics leave plenty of opportunity to experiment with all your creative ideas while also offering sentimental symbolism to the whole affair.
