Part recipe book, part encyclopedia and part history book, Larousse Gastronomique has been enchanting French food enthusiasts around the world for almost 100 years. Considered the definitive authority and most comprehensive guide to French cooking ever published, it was written by French chef Prosper Montagne in 1938 and was only available in French until the English language version was published in 1961. 

Laid out in alphabetical order across 1098 pages, this giant reference and recipe book encapsulates everything to do with French cooking from kitchen design to food prep, to cooking techniques and how-to's, to detailed histories of ingredients and the pots and pans and tools in which to prepare them with. Like a good dictionary or instruction manual it is illustrated throughout with drawings, photographs and diagrams and contains a detailed glossary and index in both French and English. 

Considered a classic cooking bible, this famous big book was favored by all the famous big chefs including Julia Child who received a French version from her husband Paul just as she was beginning her cooking explorations.

{CONDITION} 

The dust jacket is fully intact but contains slight chippiness on the top edge as well as well as a rubmark on the front side of the jacket. The interior pages and green cover boards are bright and clean. The spine is tght and all pages are intact. Some very minor cooking splatters appear on just a few pages, leaving 99% of the book unmarked. Please see photos.
