{HISTORY}
Started by two brothers in East Liverpool, Ohio in the 1870s, Homer Laughlin has remained one of the most iconic dishware makers in American history. Producers of a zillion different patterns from plain to decadent, it's safe to say that they have probably made at least one dish pattern to suit each and every person's particular taste over the past 150 years.
A marvel in and of itself, Homer Laughlin manufactured both timeless and trendy designs, decade by decade, with the skill and foresight to navigate through three centuries while still remaining relevant and sought after in the marketplace.
In the 1930s, Homer Laughlin introduced their Nautilus dishware shape which featured a unique decorative rim that contained embossed detailing in the form of swirls and fan shapes. Popular and complimentary with a variety of different patterns, this Nautilus shape was a stylish choice offering variety and creativity especially when matched with other dishware shapes and patterns. In 1937, HL introduced Nautilus Eggshell, which combined the beauty of the Nautilus shape with a cream-colored lightweight clay similar to the look and feel of delicate porcelain. Available in a wide variety of patterns, Eggshell Nautilus was made through the 1960s before being discontinued.
This set of four dinner plates features the gorgeous flowering branch pattern known as Apple Blossom, Made in Newell, West Virginia in 1944. these plates contain Homer Laughlin's stylish Eggshell Nautilus shape, and feature clusters of pale pink flowers and grey leaves with a gold rim and pale ivory body.
Interestingly, throughout the 1940s and 1950s, Homer Laughlin named several patterns Apple Blossom - all with different floral designs and unique color palettes. But as far as we know, this pink and grey flowering branch pattern is the only Apple Blossom paired with the Eggshell Nautilus shape.
Absolutely gorgeous for spring and summer tablescapes, this pattern looks so pretty with all the delicate pastel shades of the flowering seasons, but it is also uniquely suited to winter as well. When paired with shades of silver, grey, and ivory, the whole table comes to life with the spirit of spring.
