{HISTORY}

Around the Vintage Kitchen, we love to call this little beauty -  the creamer of a thousand possibilities. We have yet to identify an exact pattern or maker for this gorgeous time traveler, but that has not hindered our imaginations as to a plethora of wild and fanciful storylines defining where and when it hails from.

Due to shape, size, and color palette, we estimate this creamer to date somewhere around the 1920s. That was an era when black was a popular color, in combination with orange and yellow, in china patterns. Also during the art deco days, dish shapes of a more artistic and unusual design were all the rage.

The floral design is anchored by a big yellow peony and surrounded by a pretty cascading trail of petite flowers in blue, yellow, and orange, suggesting an Asian theme. Gold highlights the rim, handle, and base adding style. And an embossed design around the middle adds extra art deco flourish. Hand-numbered on the bottom alongside a fading stamp hinting at the number 28, it is possible that this dish was made in Japan, before the days when they had to stamp the country of origin on each piece. Or possibly, it was part of a hand-numbered series of designs that were made in the U.S. as trial run pieces before an official pattern was determined.

Either way, it is a creamer full of personality and visual appeal. One day soon, we hope to run into other pieces of the same design so that we can tell an accurate and definitive origin story. Until then, the wild and fanciful likehoods continue...
