{HISTORY}

Based on 19th-century engravings, the Charlotte pattern line when it debuted in the 20th century was a real beauty to behold. 

Made in England by Royal Crownford, the Charlotte pattern featured large basket bouquets of big blooms and lush, lacy botanicals that swirled and swayed their way around dinnerware, kitchen accessories, and decorative ceramic home decor pieces.  It came in blue and ivory, red and ivory, brown and ivory and even a handpainted multicolor of pinks and greens and yellows.

Like romantic toile fabric, the Charlotte pattern was ageless in aesthetic, easily fitting in with vintage, antiques, classic color palettes and botanical decor that could be from any decade or any century.

This hard-to-find cheese bell, also known as a cheese dome or cheese keep features the Charlotte brown color palette which is a mix of coffee and espresso shades set against an ivory background. Originally it would have come with a matching square plate on which the dome rested, but somewhere along life's journey, this dome was separated from its plate. That's not so much of an issue these days for anyone who likes to mix and match their dishware as this dome will effortlessly rest on top of any standard dinner plate. 

Useful for so many serving situations, this heavy dome is great for protecting cakes, breads, baked goods, salads and the aforementioned cheese wheel. It's especially pretty for outdoor dining during the warm weather months as it will protect food from any unwanted creatures and winged wonders that thought about joining the party too. 

When not in service, it makes a beautiful display piece - a work of art in and of itself.
