This vintage (bordering on antique!) linen hand towel contains all the most delicate needlework techniques! Hemstitched borders, an inner hemstitched placard design, and a hemstitched floral center mix with colorful leaf and flower fabric appliques that been highlighted with white on white embroidery stitches. A beauty on all fronts!

Most likely this soft (almost transparent) linen towel dates to the 1920s/1930s era. Its functional size makes it great for use as a decorative napkin, table linen, or tray liner as well as acting as a gorgeous backdrop for food photography. 

With every vintage linen that comes into the shop, we always lament over the fact that most of them hold tightly their origin stories. That makes these time travelers some of the most mysterious storytellers in the Vintage Kitchen. It is true we will never know the unique,  lifetime adventures of this pretty towel, the kind of house it lived in, nor the name of the talented sewer who created it, but it is fun to imagine a wealth of scenarios. That makes this piece of history a delight for the table just as much as a delight for the imagination!
