Rudyard wrote the poem, If, in 1895, conveying words of wisdom to his son. This phrase about the earth and everything in it appears almost at the very end of the piece - a sort of wrap-up to the idea that if you strive to be a good person and live a well-intentioned, thoughtful and authentic life then yours is the earth and everything in it.  Find the entire poem here. 

When taken out of context from the rest of the poem, this cross-stitched message laden with its fruits and its vegetables takes on a more agricultural air and a sense of responsibility that we all have in caring for the earth and everything in it.  In both cases, the words carry fantastic sentiment.
