{HISTORY}

Made by Weis Manufacturing Company in Monroe, MI, this vintage wood recipe box was just the thing you needed to keep your recipes tidy in the 1950s. With its included file tab organizers, recipes could easily be alphabetized for quick reference and pertinent note-taking. Made of strong and sturdy oak, this box also features fragments of the red and black Weis label, a company that produced organizing boxes, paper, and equipment for homes and businesses from 1912 to 1964. 

Vintage recipe boxes often hold a little personality all unto their own. If you are lucky enough to be handed down a box stuffed full with clippings and handwritten notes from generations past, then you'll get to know the personality of the cook based on the recipes she collected. But if the box is empty, like this one, then it is your chance to fill it up with the foods and flavors that appeal to you.

This recipe box doesn't come with any recipes but it does come with a little bit of extra character in the slight warp of wood in one corner. This is an easy repair to fix with some wood glue and a couple of clamps, but here in the Vintage Kitchen, we like its quirky look. To us, it's as if the box has a sly smile or is quietly whispering something out of the side of its mouth. It's fun to guess the types of stories it would share from decades past!

{CONDITION}

In wonderful vintage condition. The hinged lid works smoothly when opening and closing the box. The interior and exterior are very clean and free of spots or stains. The paper file tabs are aged to perfection with varying degrees of toning and weathered patina. There is a slight warp in one corner of the box that has caused the base to pull away slightly in that one section. It is not loose or fragile in any way and does not affect the use of the box at all. If you would prefer it sealed up again, we will be happy to secure it with wood glue so that the base will be firmly reattached again on that one corner at no extra charge. If that repair is of interest to you please include that in the note section upon checkout.
