First founded in the 1880s, Crown Potteries made some of the prettiest dishware in the country... 

{HISTORY}

Cheerful, elegant, and full of retro charm, this vintage platter was made by Crown Potteries Co. in Evansville, Indiana in the spring of 1952. Crown Potteries made some of America's prettiest pottery patterns - this one being a great example of the style that epitomized their brand.

Featuring bouquets of blue and yellow flowers with an inner circle of embossed leaves and an outer gadroon-style rim, there's quite a bit of detail in this large server. Colors include soft marigold, butter, sky blue, pale grey, spring green and celery against a creamy white background that is not quite bright white but not quite ivory either.  

As far as color palettes and food presentation go, this pairing of blue, yellow and green is ideal. A whole roasted chicken, a big summer salad, a mess of garden carrots, sprigs of winter kale, an arrangement of autumn apple tartlets... these are examples of year-round foods that look pretty on a platter like this thanks to those golden shades and contrasting greens and blues. 

Crown Pottery was started by an English transplant who moved to Indiana in the 1880s. Unfortunately, he died just a couple of years into business leaving the company to shuffle between a few different owners, before it finally merged in the 1890s with Illinois-based Peoria Pottery Company. Combining both old and new names, it became known as Crown Potteries and produced popular dishware up until the mid-1950s.  Known for their beautiful designs and quality craftsmanship, this C.P. Co platter is still just as stylish today as it was 70 years ago.

- Many Crown Potteries pieces were unnamed, so while we don't know the specific pattern title of this design, we do know that it is one of their harder-to-find patterns these days. 

{CONDITION}

In lovely vintage condition. There is one small light tan stain on the front near the inner rim that is about the size of half of a dime. And there is one small chip on the rim on the back that measures 1/4" inch in size. This chip is not visible from the front and doesn't affect the integrity of the platter in any way. There is some very, very light crazing near the inner rim on the front. Please see photos.
