Sweet Spring, full of sweet days and roses, a box where sweets compacted lie. George Herbert (1593-1633)

{HISTORY}

Made in Japan in the 1940s, this pretty little lidded jam jar with its attached drip plate was made by Nasco for their Springtime pattern line. Featuring thorny branches of wild pink roses, its color palette suits well to all the seasons where some sweetening is needed.

Originally its purpose was as a holder for jellies and jam (perhaps homemade wild rose jelly?!) and it came with a dainty ceramic spoon that poked out of the lid. The spoon is included here with this jam jar, but, it has been repaired after a break midway down the handle. This isn't a terrible flaw, as the spoon is still usable but it does lend itself to more fragile handling. This misadventure also opens the door for a whole new use for the jar too. Instead of jam, it's the perfect container for honey,  all you'd need to carry out that mission is a little wooden honey wand and you'll be all set to drizzle and dab. The already attached drip plate is the perfect catchall for all those drips and dribbles, saving your cupboard, counter or shelf from getting sticky with sweetener.

{SPECIAL FEATURES}

- Three-piece includes removable lid, base and matching spoon

- Stamped on bottom with makers mark and pattern name

- Colors include brown, beige, salmon, spring green

- Handpainted floral design

{CONDITION}

The jar itself is in lovely condition. No chips or cracks on either the lid or the base. Some very light and lovely crazing around the rim of jar. The interior is very clean and bright. The spoon was broken and repaired halfway down the middle of the handle. This was a common occurrence to do the daintiness and fragility of the small spoons in this pattern. After being repaired, it is back in one piece, and while the spoon is strong and fully usable, it is recommended that extra care be taken with this delicate piece.

{SIZE}

Measures 5" inches (height base to top of lid) with a 1.75" inch diameter opening. Drip plate measures 5.25" inches (diameter). Spoon measures 5" inches (length).

{STYLE IDEA}

This jam jar looks especially beautiful with wood accents, classic ivory dishware, antique brown transferware and pale pink and beige color palettes.
