{HISTORY}

Made by Tressemanes & Vogt in Limoges, France between 1904-1907, this antique porcelain dish features such a unique shape and size. With a pedestal base, tiny gold feet and scroll-like handles, there could have been many possibilities regarding its original function... a gravy boat perhaps or an open sugar bowl.  A nut dish, or a candy dish or a even a cut flower vase meant for roses.

Those are of course just a handful of potential purposes, but others nowadays abound too. A mini dish for succulents, a catchall for kitchen odds and ends, a small serving bowl for fruit, whipped cream, jam, cookies or biscuits, a holder for your kitchen sponge or bar soap, a display piece for your shelf... the list goes on and on!

Tressemanes & Vogt was a French decorating studio and porcelain manufacturer that exported their dishware to the American market via their retail office in New York City. First founded by the Vogt family in the 1840s, Emilie Tressemanes joined as a partner in the late 1880s until he retired in 1907.  The name was then changed to Porcelaine Gustave Vogt. That distinct timeline, plus the patent date on the bottom of the dish (February 26, 1904) helps us pinpoint this piece to a small, specific window of time... 1904-1907. The history of many antique dishes can not always be traced so clearly, so this one is a special delight in that regard.

As far as aesthetics go - this one is a beauty and a great representative of elegant French style.  A wreath of four pink roses surround the body of the dish connected by swags of mini golden lines. Two additional handpainted roses decorate the handles. The most delicate shade of pale turquoise adds a touch of Regency aesthetic to the exterior and a bright shiny glaze on the interior makes the whole piece bright and airy.
