Rare Vintage Harker Pottery Dogwood Sugar Bowl with Lid circa 1940s

Legend states that the dogwood's bright white flowers are the result of an accidental tip of a paint bucket from high in the sky as the French pantomime clown, Pierrot, climbed a ladder to brighten up the moon's face with whitewash paint.

{HISTORY}

Made by Harker Pottery in East Liverpool, OH sometime around the 1940's, this vintage sugar bowl features a flowering dogwood pattern and roomy, rounded handles along with a matching lid. Squat and cute, its got quite a little personality (as almost all vintage sugar bowls do) and can be easily adapted for a variety of different kitchen and serving tasks.

Here in the Vintage Kitchen we like to utilize sugar bowls as succulent planters for the indoor garden, holders for appetizer dips and nibbles during cocktail hour and flower vases for the table centerpiece, in addition of course to their traditional job of sugar container.

This is a rare, hard-to-find pattern in the Harker line, which makes it extra special in the shop. Dogwoods are one of the prettiest year-round ornamental trees, and one of the first to bloom in the early Spring. With its bright white body and pretty branches on display year round in your space, this sweet rarity will be sure to add nothing but a pretty vista for your indoor landscape.
