There is something about everything that you can be glad about, if you keep hunting long enough to find it. Eleanor Porter

{HISTORY}

Oh Pollyanna! The sunshine character born from the creative imagination of American author Eleanor Porter, took the literary world by storm in 1913. With her optimistic disposition and her ever-present desire to brighten the world around her, Pollyanna has acted like a ray of sunshine in the lives of readers around the globe for over 100 years.

Published the year before World War I began, Eleanor Porter wrote two books in the Pollyanna series before her early death in 1920 at the age of 51. But the death of Eleanor did not mean the demise of Pollyanna. Carrying on the infectious personality of this orphan girl character,  four female writers stepped in to continue the series that became known as the Glad books. Harriet Lummis Smith, a lauded African American author took the reigns first writing the next four books un the series.  Elizabeth Borton continued with four more, then Margaret Piper Chalmers added one,  Virginia May Moffit added two and Elizabeth stepped in to write the final book.  Each writer created a host of storylines and additional characters spread out amongst 14 Glad Books, a series that carried Pollyanna from childhood through to adulthood where she became a wife and mother.

Pollyanna in Hollywood was the seventh Glad Book, written by Elizabeth Borton in 1931. This version featured here is a later edition (published in the 1950s)  and features a gorgeous dust jacket and decorated coverboards. Detailing a trip that Pollyanna takes to Hollywood with her children, it is full of adventures experienced in La La Land and takes readers behind the scenes of movie-making with lots of 1930s industry information.

Super fun for the Pollyanna fan, collectors of vintage Hollywood ephemera and anyone who needs a good dose of magical Pollyanna spirit, this book is a joy from page one.
