I have found for the first time what I can truly love - I have found you...

{HISTORY}

Igniting the imaginations and hearts of a whole new generation of readers during WWII, this edition of the classic 19th-century novel, Jane Eyre, was reprinted in 1944 by Random House with dramatic wood engravings by German-American illustrator Fritz Eichenberg (1901-1990).

Hauntingly beautiful in story and presentation, if you are unfamiliar with this beloved gothic novel, Jane Eyre was written by Charlotte Bronte in 1847. Detailing the story of Jane as she navigates an orphaned childhood and then becomes a governess in the house of Edward Rochester, it's a coming of age story, a suspenseful fish out of water story and a love story all rolled into one.

Since its debut in 1847, Jane Eyre has gone on to achieve worldwide success and recognition. Reprinted over a dozen times, it has captivated the hearts and minds of readers for centuries and made Jane a permanent and important subject of literary analysis.

In addition to illustrations throughout, this edition features a two-column layout and decorated coverboards. Originally published in a box set for new subscribers to the book-of-the-month club, Jane Eyre was previously paired with Wuthering Heights written by Charlotte's sister Emily.
