{HISTORY}

Long live the beauty of the everlasting bosc pear.

In all its real-life splendor with sun freckles, blemish spots, and fruit-ripening color variations, this beautiful glass pear is a stunning study in the balance between art and nature. 

Polished, shiny, and smooth, this pear is augmented with an antique-style square cut nail that adds rustic color, texture and natural shape to the top of the pear. 

Signed TM or MT on the bottom, we searched high and low for the artist of this pear but came up with no direct correlations. Therefore, we can't accurately determine the date it was made either. Its classic design aesthetic could have come from a California pottery, a heartland craft school or from a French or Italian ceramic arts studio, where similar but not exact pieces were made in local towns by local artisans.

Weighing in at over half a pound, this pear is heavy enough to be used as a paperweight or a decorative statement piece on a kitchen shelf or mantel. True to life, like all pears, it can be a little wobbly depending on the direction in which you display it, so we advise showcasing it in an area that embodies a calm or serene environment to avoid any tumbles.

Throughout history, pears have symbolized many things depending on culture and context. Longevity, faithfulness, fertility, friendship, feminity, and sustenance are just a few examples. As far as the kitchen goes, pears are one of the most elegant fruits of the table, often favored in elevated recipes or simply enjoyed in their natural state.

This pear looks beautiful with all sorts of dishware from antique to vintage to contemporary aesthetics The only thinking lacking about it is the fact that there are not more companions. It would be so lovely to have a whole entire orchard full of these beautiful fruits.

{CONDITION}

In beautiful condition, this pear is shiny and bright throughout. Light crazing marks add an extra layer of interest and depth. There is a small chip on the very top of the pear just underneath where the nail was inserted that measures 1/16th of an inch in size. There is also what appears to be at first glance, a small crack in that same stem area, but on close inspection, this is an intentional mark painted on the pear by the artist to bring additional lifelike detail to the overall piece.
