Visitors to Greece rarely come away unmoved. Many feel a special kinship with the country and her people which will endure for years after the visit. (from the Introduction)

{HISTORY}

This 1969 Greek Cookbook was written by Betty Wason (1912-2001) - an American war correspondent and broadcast journalist during the 1930's and 1940's who fell victim to gender discrimination while working at CBS Radio. Throughout her journalism career, she traveled around the world, soaking up the cuisines and cultures of all the places she visited which bloomed into a sideline career of cookbook writing. Publishing over 15 cookbooks throughout her life, Betty was most prolific during the 1960's where in addition to Greek cookery she also tackled traditional German, Chinese and Spanish cuisine.

{CONDITION}

This is definitely one of the storied cookbooks that we love. As a former library book, it bears all the appropriate library stamps, pockets, tape marks and reference number information you'd expect to find. It also bears the handiwork of a previous cook who marked many of the recipes with notations. Many are simple check marks which we assume are recipes that this cook liked in particular. This previous owner also showed a special affinity for Brunette and Blonde Cake and/or Honey Pie which is the set of pages (from the desserts and sweets section) that bears a splattering of aged cooking stains. Having said all that the pages are intact, the spine is tight and the dust jacket is original. Please see photos for condition.
