Wm A. Rogers - known throughout the country as "the house of quality..." (from an early 1900s ad campaign)

{HISTORY}

There are a handful of words that circulate around the name Wm. A Rogers when it comes to silverplate flatware... quality, reputation, fine, highest-grade, celebrated, guaranteed. These were all the hallmarks the company stood behind for every fork, spoon, knife and serving utensil they manufactured.

Made in New York in 1901 this set of Wm. A Rogers silverplate dinner knives features the curly, swirly Warwick pattern. On the more substantial side than other more delicate designs, this pattern has a regal appearance and reminds us, here In The Vintage Kitchen of the curly main of a lion.

With its rounded tip and hollow handle, this style of knife is referred to as blunt and is ideal for such tasks as buttering bread or cutting through softer foods at table. We love antique knives like this in all their tarnished glory for use on charcuterie trays, hors d'oeuvres platters and after-dinner cheese plates. They not only add a bit of beauty to the serving tray but also a bit of history to the table.

It's fun to note how these knives seem to change color too depending on the background. Against bright white, they tend to take on a more golden shade and against grey a more silver shade.
