Antique Pink Striped Washstand Pitcher by W.S. George White Graniteware
{HISTORY}
It absolutely never fails. Every time, we see a piece of W.S. George pottery, it's always something delightfully pretty to look at. From feminine colors to big, blousy floral patterns to artistic designs, WSG pieces are always beauties to behold.
This tall antique washstand pitcher is no exception. Simple in style, classic in design, and containing an elegant pink stripe, this pitcher hails from the early years of the 20th century when the pottery was just starting.
Founded by William Shaw George in 1904, the W.S. George Pottery Company operated four plants in Ohio and Pennsylvania where they made dishes for both the domestic market and the hotel industry.
An incredibly successful and beloved manufacturer in Ohio, and nationally recognized with showroom offices in New York and Chicago, W.S. George Pottery Co was the life passion of William Shaw George from the time he was a young boy until his early death in 1925 at the age of 60. Well-respected in his hometown of East Palestine, William was a highly regarded employer in the area. He was known not only for paying his employees well, but also for spoiling them with annual company celebrations and making sure that safety was the number one priority for all his workers. Following his death, William's sons took over the business carrying it until 1955, when W.S. George filed for bankruptcy. Royal China Company purchased the OH and PA pottery plants in an attempt to keep products in circulation, but RCC officially stopped production in 1960.
So many pieces of W.S. George pottery have been lost to time, making each new (old) find that much more exciting. Although over 100 years old, this pitcher is still as fresh nd lovely as the day it was made, and fits in seamlessly with both antique and contemporary design aesthetics.
