{HISTORY}

Stitched on thick, bright white linen, this pretty embroidered table runner features pink allium flowers with alternating turquoise and spring green stems and leaves. A decorative border of pulled thread-drawn work adds extra style around the edges.

Sized at 38" inches (length)  x 15.75" inches (width), this cloth is a lovely size for table centerpieces and is bright and cheery in color palette. 

Unique in composition, we suspect at one point this was a sewing project or remnant piece from a larger work as one end is folded and rudimentarily stitched where the end doesn't quite meet up with the finished edge. This gives the runner overall a little bit of a shabby chic appeal, but the embroidery pattern itself is so pretty that you almost don't even notice it. 

Colors include ice pink, turquoise/teal, and a spring green color similiar to pale watermelon. Entirely handstitched, this sewing endeavor definitely would have taken quite a bit of skill to execute. The flowers are made up of running stitch, cross-stitch and French knots. The drawn work consists of pulling individual threads to expose gaps in the fabric in order to create a new design. 

As for age, it's difficult to pinpoint a specific time period from which this one hails, but it looks like the fabric itself may be antique and then perhaps the embroidered part was added later in the 20th century, possibly around the 1940s/1950s.

{CONDITION}

In very bright and very clean condition, there is just one small hint of a rust stain about the size of a pencil point near one of the floral bouquets at the center of the linen. Barely noticeable, your eye would be hard-pressed to spot it unless it was pointed out. Please see photos for a closer view of this spot. As noted above, there is one edge that contains folded over fabric and as a result has left a frayed piece of fabric that overlaps. The thread colors are bright and colorful. The stitchwork is tight and strong and there are no holes or tears in the fabric. Please see photos.
