{HISTORY}

This famous nursery rhyme, Hey Diddle Diddle, was first made popular in the 1700s by Mother Goose, but it is speculated that the history of it could extend all the way back to the 16th century when certain elements and catchphrases of the poem were found in various illuminated texts and poetry. Some scholars believe this poem was 

In 1955, Philadelphia embroidery company, Jane Snead Designs began producing an array of embroidered poetry kits for crafts and wall hangings that mirrored 18th and 19th-century samplers, which was when this one was created. Featuring a floral edge,  the complete alphabet, marching toy soldiers, and characters from the rhyme, this piece of embroidery is in the same style as samplers created by girls in the 1700s and 1800s.
