{HISTORY}

Once upon a time, this is how a petite pup ate her meal.

In a heavy and substantial stoneware pottery bowl the color of Dijon mustard, this dish was made for dogs with energetic eating habits and a penchant for classic style.

Imprinted with a simple USA mark on bottom and double-glazed on the interior and exterior, this bowl could have been an early rendition of the Robinson Ransbottom Pottery dog dish pr perhaps one from their neighbor Roseville. Both potteries were located in Roseville, Ohio and thus dog dish was a popular item during the mid to late 20th century.

What we especially love about this dog dish is its classic, git-right-in appeal. We can see it in the kitchen of a 1920s American farmhouse just as much as a cozy city flat in London or in the galley of a sailboat floating the mighty seas.  Timeless in every sense of the word, the exact age of this dish may be uncertain but we do know it was definitely popular with one pup in particular, as you'll notice an age-old chip on one side at the rim.

That chip marks pure joy in action... joy for the food about to be eaten, joy for the exuberant spirit who knocked the dish around with energy and excitement, and joy for the longstanding durability of stoneware, demonstrating that enthusiastic handling doesn't mean the total demise of a dish.

{SPECIAL FEATURES}

  • Small size
  • Heavy
  • Colors include Dijon, walnut, and chocolate

{CONDITION}

Apart from the 1-inch chip mentioned above, this bowl is in lovely vintage condition with no cracks. There are three well-worn, very smooth, age-old chips on the bottom of the dish that most likely occured over many years of repetively setting the bowl down on the floor over and over again for decades. The glaze is soft and shiny on the inside and out and the dog lettering is crisp and clear. Please photos.
