{HISTORY}

To understand the story behind this stylish vintage ice bucket is to understand the passion of a single man. His name was Leonard Florence and his life-long love affair was silver manufacturing. We never knew Leonard personally but if we can gather anything from his biography, we'd like to imagine that Leonard was an energetic guy, never looking to sit still too long. He spent his entire career in the industry, but it seems about every ten years he got a little itchy to shake things up a bit.

Growing up in Massachusetts, Leonard first learned the ropes just out of college at Raymond Silver, before becoming his own boss thirteen years later when he started the Leonard Silver Company in 1969. Nine years after that he purchased two more silver companies, one of which was his previous employer, and then managed those before starting a completely new silver company in the late 1980s. That company he sold in the late 1990s but remained on the board as an active participant until just a few years before his death in 2003.

All this moving and grooving among the silver industry in a career that spanned five decades must have made Leonard a true expert in his field. It is a fitting story for this ice bucket, which is beautifully built and meant for fun affairs like cocktail hour socializing and party-throwing. Made sometime during the 1970s, this silverplate bucket features a removable lid, and a glass bowl insert. A foam rubber seal holds the heavy bowl in place so that ice is kept chilled for a long period of time and a small hole on the bottom of the bucket prevents condensation from welling up inside.

An ingenious and elegant solution - much prettier than toting ice chips from the freezer by hand or serving them in a regular everyday bowl, this kind of vintage barware is so classic, functional, and necessary. We bet that was what Leonard was ultimately hoping for when running all these silver companies. That the items stamped with his name would be around for a long time - just like he was in the industry. That's the mark of a passionate person. That's the mark of Leonard Silver.
