{HISTORY}

Featuring two of Spring's most colorful flowers: the yellow narcissus and the pink peony, these two clay tile coasters feature a classic Chinese style of painting representative of the Southern Song Dynasty in mid-13th century China.  

Colorful and detailed, each one is a mini work of art in and of itself. There are no markings as to who made them, but we suspect they might have originally been part of a set of six, possibly offered through a museum gift shop in collaboration with an Asian art exhibit. 

The Chinese characters on each tile refer to Songyue, meaning pine moon which could refer to a specific painting made during the Southern Song period titled Viewing The Moon Under a Pine Tree by Ma Yuan. 

Each coaster is made of clay with a soft, smooth, matte varnish on the front and cork backing on the reverse side. Colors include bubblegum pink, raspberry, emerald green, mint, marigold, black, and pale blue on the peony tile and lemon yellow, spring green, emerald green, cardinal red, and olive on the narcissus tile.

{CONDITION}

In lovely vintage condition, these are clean and bright on both the back and the front of each. The slightest, lightest hint of a stain on the pink peony tile appears just below the butterfly, but is barely noticeable. The narcissus tile has a slight chip on the top left corner. Please see photos.
