Vintage 1970s Lux Minute Meter Kitchen Timer - Non-Working circa mid-1970s
{HISTORY}
Back in the 1970s, if you were baking a cake or a casserole or a tray of cookies, after you popped your creation into the oven, you set your Minute Meter timer to tick tick tick away, accounting for each and every minute to ensure that your masterpiece came out on time and beautifully cooked.
With the ability to keep track of a full hour, the metal case, plastic dial, and black and white color palette made this little timer helpful and stylish. Made by Lux beginning in the 1950s, this popular kitchen helper changed little over the next two decades as far as design. The one difference in Minute Meters of the 1950s and opposed to the 1970s was the style of the dial. This particular timer features the 1970s dial, which is more pointy at the tip inside of rounder versions manufactured in the 1950s.
Originally, in the 1970s, this little guy came in a range of assorted colors and sold for around $3.50 (about $16.00 today) at your local hardware store or appliance shop - a steal of a price practically for all the ease it would come to offer in the kitchen.
Based on all the lovely chippy spots, and worn character, we'd say this one had a pretty good time in the kitchen of years past. In non-working condition now, the bell still rings if you manually move the dial, but it no longer ticks away the minutes. If you are a tinkerer of sorts, a fun project awaits. This timer could be repaired - it just needs a balancing spring to bring it back to life. Otherwise, it now serves as a cute little decor piece for your cute little kitchen.
