Autumn carries more gold in its pockets than all the other seasons. Jim Bishop, Journalist 1907-1987

{HISTORY}

Just in time for cozy fall and winter weather, this antique porcelain canister set represents all the ingredients you need to make a delicious batch of breakfast or homemade cookies.

Made in Germany around 1914 or later, this set of four porcelain canisters includes individual containers for oatmeal, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves. Housed in iridescent-washed, bright white porcelain with gold detailing, removable lids, and gold, cursive script, it's a shimmery way to start your day.

Manufactured by G.M. Thurnauer, a New York-based kitchenware manufacturer, these porcelain canisters were designed to add beauty and functionality to everybody's favorite room in the house. In business from the 1880s-1970s, G.M.T. was known for their quality products, time-saving devices, and attractive designs.  It was always their mission to make the kitchen a space of joy for all cooks by manufacturing items that delighted the eye and eased the cooking process. Their catalog of kitchenware was vast and contained not only storage organizers like these but also multi-purpose cooking utensils and gadgets.

This collection of canisters most likely originally came in a larger set that included containers for coffee, tea, rice, flour, and sugar, etc., but somewhere along the journey, those others separated from the group and just left these four - a perfect sympony of spice and grain for a wide range of meal-making.

What is especially fun about this design is that the canisters are blank on the back so if you decided to incorporate them into your kitchen for other purposes, you could simply turn them around, add your own label and have an entirely new set of antique canisters customized to your very own needs.

Whether you are baking, breakfasting, or organizing, these antique canisters will add sparkle to your space and help keep your kitchen neat and tidy.

 {SPECIAL FEATURES}

- Matching set of four canisters each with removable porcelain lids

- Each canister is stamped on bottom with the manufacturer's mark

- Colors include gold, bright white, and a shimmery iridescent wash with picks up rainbow shades of very light pastel pink, blue, and green depending on the light

{CONDITION}

In beautiful antique condition. These canisters feature no chips or cracks.  They are in very clean condition both inside and out. The gold cursive on the cinnamon jar is fading so it is not as legible as the canisters. The clove jar contains light staining on the bottom of the jar both on the interior and exterior. Other than that, these four are in lovely shape.

{SIZE}

The oatmeal canister measures 7.5" inches (height) x 4.5" inches (width) x 4.25" inches (depth) and weighs 1.12 lbs.

Each of the spice canisters measure 4.25" inches (height) x 2.25" inches (width) x 2.5" inches (depth) and weighs 7 oz.

Together all four pieces weigh just a smidge under 3lbs.
