Rare Vintage 1960's Smirnoff Dominoes Set in Wood Box - Vintage Midcentury Barware and Games
Fun things happen with Smirnoff. (1960's Smirnoff Ad Campaign Slogan)
{HISTORY}
Combining dominoes and drinks is a sure-fire way to enjoy a wonderfully fun time -- vintage style. This midcentury dominoes set has been around since the 1960's when Smirnoff branded it for a special promotional campaign. Smirnoff Vodka has been around since the 1860's when its founder, Pyotr Arsenjevitch Smirnov, first started his distillery in Moscow, Russia. And the actual game of dominoes? Well, that's been played since the 13th century - a pastime created during China's Song dynasty. With this international trifecta of strategy, spirits and style this very rare go anywhere set of dominoes is ready to entertain at your next party, picnic or backyard barbeque.
This box, in particular, reminds me of a group of old Italian men I used to see playing dominoes in Central Park in the mid-1990's. On late summer afternoons, they'd be out there swapping stories and shuffling tiles in their straw fedoras and their undershirts. Between their laughter and their drinking and their cigars, it always looked like such a lush and lovely way to spend an afternoon.
