Bestselling American author, horticulturist, and landscape architect Daniel J. Foley (1913-1999)  published over a dozen books throughout his career on the subject of gardening.

As a frequent lecturer at garden clubs across the country and as head gardener at The House of Seven Gables in Salem MA for three decades, Daniel had many opportunities to learn about the successes and failures, the tips and tricks, and the rewards and challenges other gardening enthusiasts faced, as well as his own, when it came to growing a successful garden of any size.

A bestseller from its 1966 start,  Daniel revised Gardening For Beginners in 1972, updating the original text to reflect the ever-evolving industry and techniques learned. He also added more photographs, a chapter on how to grow and encourage wildflowers, and a helpful hints chapter with common mistakes resulting from the efforts of real-life gardeners.
