{HISTORY}
What's gotten a hold of the chickens running around the garden? The lambs in the field? The cows, pigs, and sheep in the pasture? Find out here! Embrace your inner James Herriot and dive into this rare antique French biology book all about parasites of domestic animals.
Written by French doctor, educator, naturalist, and scientist Maurice Neveau-Lemaire (1872-1951) Parasitologie des Animaux Domestiques centers around parasites found in domestic animals and plants. Written entirely in French, it was published in Paris in 1912, while Maurice was teaching college students in Lyon. Highly regarded in his field, Maurice's big book (over 1200 pages!) is packed full of drawings, charts, diagrams, and text collected from his twenty years of experience studying parasites around the world. Printed on lovely, thin paper stock that has lightly tanned over its 111 years, it's a beauty of a book full of interesting scientific drawings that fill every page.
An ex-library book that was previously held in the collection of the University of Nebraska, Parasitologie des Animaux Domestiques also contains in addition to its French text, an array of American library markings adding another level of depth and character.
It's curious as to how this French book wound up in the collection of a mid-western American university. How did it get here and in what mode of travel... mail, boat, plane? How fun to think about that journey from there to here and all that such an event may have entailed.
Equally engaging, is imagining just who might have perused this book over the course of a century... students, professors, artists, researchers, french language lovers, explorers of nature and science and the animal world, and maybe even a famous veterinarian or two.
Practical and daydreamy all at once, it's a beautiful addition to any nature lover's library.
