Antique Favorite Clothes Dryer Wall Mounted Wooden Dryer Rack - Ready to Hang
{HISTORY}
Absolutely one the most wonderfully purposeful inventions that has traveled the road of history so well is this antique wooden clothes drying rack. Made to mount on the wall, it is a space saver and a handy helper for all sorts of purposes. Originally, it was intended to dry clothes, which is still does very well, but when it comes to the kitchen, we especially love it for drying delicate linens, drying herbs and hanging flowers for seed collecting.
Made of wood with a metal guide and brace, this drying rack contains eight arms that fold out into a fan shape allowing for air to circulate freely between each arm. Measuring 2.5' feet in length, each arm offers quite a bit of room to hang wet linens or bundles of herbs or flowers or anything else you might need to air dry.
The clothes dryer slides onto a piece of wood attached to the wall with just two screws and is so easy to operate. This particular clothes dryer came without its original wall attachment so we made one out of antique wood so that it could be instantly hung up and put to use in its new home. All that you need are two regular screws for the pre-drilled holes and this clothes dryer will be ready to go work for another 100 years.
A bit tricky to track down via the original patent, we couldn't find the name of the original inventor but we do know that these wooden clothes dryers came in a variety of names - Favorite, Beauty, Perfection - all made for the purpose of drying clothes long before the electric tumble dryers we know today were invented. Some research suggests that this style was built for mounting on or near plumbing pipes in or around the shower or tub so that wet clothes could drip dry in a water-friendly place while not getting water all over the floor.
When not in use, this drying rack folds up, and sits flush against the wall, sticking out just 2" inches in depth, making it ideal for small spaces and out-of-the-way storage. We can't really say enough could things about this lovely little invention and how it is still so useful today. In addition to use as a clothes dryer, it's also a handy storage organizer for fabrics, ribbon, lightweight blankets, kitchen towels, baby clothes, sheets of gift wrap, etc.
