Vintage Royal Crown Derby Vine Pink Green and White Dinnerware circa 1950s - Sold Individually
Presenting a most distinguished name in dinnerware to grace your proudest table... (from a 1954 newspaper advertisement for Royal Crown Derby's Vine pattern)
{HISTORY}
From one dinner party to the next, this set of vintage dishware has floated flawlessly and festively through the past 70 years of mealtime magic.
Made in England in the 1950s by Royal Crown Derby, this colorful collection of plates and bowls made their way during the mid-20th century to Cleveland, Ohio to the kitchen of an elegant home entertainer and a remarkable cook. If you asked Nina what the two best things in life were, she most likely would have said her family and her dining room table.
Large enough (and long enough) to seat 28, there was often not a week that went by where Nina did not host a house full of enthusiastic eaters. Sicilian by heritage, you could count on at least four things in abundance when you found yourself at Nina's table - food, laughter, chit-chat, and smiles, as nothing pleased her more than entertaining a batch of lively friends and family.
These dishes were part of decades of Nina's merry-making whether it was ringing in the New Year, hosting a luncheon, celebrating a holiday, or spoiling one of her friends with a gourmet birthday dinner. Time travelers of joy for certain, all sorts of revelry is wrapped up in each and every one of these dishes.
Featuring the Vine pattern, a popular Royal Crown Derby design for over 35 years, the really lovely thing about this set, apart from its delicate composition, is its ability to transition from season to season. Combining three different shades - pink, green, and white, but the same grapevine pattern throughout, it's a fun mix-and-match set. Undoubtedly, this is why Nina loved these pieces so much. Gorgeous, effortless, and accommodating they are a consummate hostess' dream as they are just as pretty serving up a springtime soup as an autumn salad, a summer shortcake, or a winter stew.
Handpainted clusters of golden grapes, leaves and vines add extra sparkle and shimmer when caught by the light. Endless possibilities of mix-and-match arrangements offer plenty of creativity when it comes to setting dynamic tablescapes. Each fluted edge of the green salad plates adds a little extra ruffle and texture to the whole affair.
Now a very hard-to-find pattern, especially in the green and pink shades, we are offering these dishes piece by piece, so if you are looking to fill out an existing collection, start a new one or augment your current dishware with an accent piece or two, this set will help add color and vibrancy to your table. Each piece also comes with a jubilant dose of Nina's spirit. There's nothing she'd love more than to see the party continue for decades to come.
A special note on the color: Royal Crown Derby referred to the green and pink shades of this pattern as salmon, pea green and Duesbury. For today's reference, on the color scale the pink shade most closely resembles ballet pink while the green shade most closely resembles celadon or celery.

In beautiful vintage condition. There are no chips, cracks or stains on any of the dishes. There is a little bit of very light rubbing on the gold center scallops of a few of the pink soup bowls. These are barely noticeable, but we have photographed examples so please look for those details. Each of the fluted salad plate pieces bear 1-2 small marks of wear in the green areas where the color has worn away in a streak or two. This is not uncommon with this type of Royal Crown Derby dish style. These marks are, again, insignificant and merely represent their wonderfully authentic age. Please see photos.
