{HISTORY}

Made by Royal China Co in Sebring, Ohio during the 1940s, this large, heavy platter was originally intended for use as a chop plate in charge of bringing large portions of grilled meats, seafood and poultry to the table. 

While the name chop plate is pretty unromantic, the decoration of this pretty dish more than makes up for it.  Featuring a lovely basket of cabbage rose florals in the center, a gold etched leaf design around the rim, and a band of stylish embossing, it's got a lot to offer in the way of charm and function.

Weighing in at 2.4 lbs  and measuring 12" inches in diameter, this chop plate also moonlights incredibly well as a serving tray for drinks and hors d'oeuvres as well as a cake plate given its more substantial nature and accommodating size. 

First established in 1930, Royal China was always a trendsetter in the industry. In addition to inventing a revolutionary stamping machine, they also had a female founder, a true rarity in the dishware manufacturing industry.  And in the beginning, years, while the Great Depression was challenging businesses across the country, Royal China came up with an inventive plan to hire workers on a delayed payment system so that the pottery could establish a strong foundation without the expense of immediate overhead costs.  This unorthodox practice was intended to give the pottery a leg up in the face of competition and if done right would secure future success and growth for all employees. Luckily, this combination of creative management and faithful employees proved to be a great success.  Eventually, Royal China became the third-largest dishware producer in the country. 

The Royal Etch Gold pattern was available in a wide variety of pieces for a complete dining set including tureens, platters, dinnerware, tea sets, and cups and saucers. It's an especially beautiful pattern for mixing and matching with other vintage dishware thanks to all the colors in the floral bouquet and the thick gold band.

{CONDITION]

In lovely vintage condition. There are no chips, cracks or staining. There is lots lovely very light crazing. on the front and some minor wear along the gold edge in some spots. Please see photos
