Cook in it, serve in it, be proud of it on your prettiest dinner table... (1932 Paden ad campaign)

{HISTORY}

As if it had just been taken down from the pottery shelves, this gorgeous vintage covered dish - also known as a knob top casserole - looks as brand new and shiny as the day it was made. What a marvel to think it is 90 years old but doesn't look a day over one. Made by Paden City Pottery in West Virginia for their Bakserv line, this pink and white floral pattern was called Paden Rose and debuted in 1932.

Intended to ease work in the kitchen, Paden's Bak-Serv line offered three solutions in one. Working as a fridge container, oven-proof bakeware, and a serving dish, it made every aspect of food prep pretty and effortless, while keeping piles of dishes at bay and kitchen cabinets void of unnecessary dishware.

Nowadays it is very hard to find these handy multi-tasking covered dishes. This one would have been of ideal size and shape to hold soup or baked beans or a pudding type dessert, but its canister size offers many other possibilities too.

Delicate and full of cottage-style charm, it can function in a variety of different ways around the kitchen today. Remove the lid and use it to store kitchen utensils or flatware. Turn it into a vase for flowers as a table centerpiece, or beautify your cupboard or pantry by incorporating it as a storage container that serves both pretty and functional purposes. Clear your countertop of unneeded bags and boxes by storing cookies, crackers, baked goods, coffee grounds or pet treats inside or any unsightly odds and ends that modern life necessitates. Please note there is an air hole in the lid, so this is not an airtight container when the lid is in use.
