{HISTORY}

The cutest little restaurant ware dishes to ever grace the table, this trio of mini green striped baker dishes was made by Buffalo China in Buffalo, NY between the 1950s-1980s.

Green striped restaurant ware is perhaps the most classic of all restaurant dishware, but surprisingly mini bakers are quite hard to find these days. About the size of a soap dish, these petite oval-shaped bowls have the capacity to hold just two large chicken eggs. That means they were most likely used for serving small sides when it came to restaurant dining. A dish of baked beans, a scoop of coleslaw, a side of macaroni and cheese... these dishes were meant for just a smidge of a little something extra to augment a meal.

In gorgeous shape, these bowls feature two sets of pine green stripes - one thick and one thin. This double stripe design may have been known among Buffalo pattern names as the Nassau design which debuted in the 1970s and came in an array of other colors besides green.

Buffalo China (originally known as Buffalo Pottery) was started in 1901 and from the get-go, the pottery was making impressive strides. It was the largest fire-proof pottery in the world at the time it was built and it was the first pottery in the world to operate completely by electricity. Those two bits of "edge" on the industry allowed Buffalo to power its way through the century turning out millions of pieces of pottery for the wholesale, retail, and restaurant industries.

Family-run throughout the 20th century, Buffalo China navigated the highs and lows of the American economy and continued to produce high-quality dishware in incredible quantities up until it was sold to a local ceramics company in 2004 and ceased operation shortly thereafter.
