Vintage Large 1930s Handpainted Meito Platter with Iris Flowers circa 1937
{HISTORY}
Made in Japan by Meito China in 1937, this gorgeous floral platter features colorful bouquets of handpainted flowers that include tulips, roses, daisies and irises.
Heavy in composition, large in size, and absolutely exquisite in color, composition and detail, Meito produced porcelain dishes that were often compared to the quality and design aesthetic of Noritake. That comparison came naturally. The founder of Meito was a previous employee of Noritake and assumed many of the techniques and artistic proclivities with which he had become familiar during his time at Noritake.
This platter features so many stylish details. The more you look at it, the more you see. In addition to the floral bouquets, there is a scalloped design circling the rim featuring stripes, dots, swirls, and medallion designs in shades of almond and nutmeg. The floral bouquets contain shades of magenta, tangerine, pale lemon, sage, celadon, almond and pale pink. A shimmery gold edge around the rim, an inner almond stripe, an ivory shoulder, and a bright white center complete the overall aesthetic,
A winning combination of colors and design details that will easily coordinate with every season and compliment a wide range of mix-and-match vintage and antique dishware, this platter offers all sorts of eye-catching tablescape designs for year-round decorating or wall display.
