Vintage 1950s Knowles Romance Pattern Luncheon Plates - Set of 7 circa 1959
{HISTORY}
In the 1950s, there were two swoon-worthy stars by the name of Knowles that lit up life with a captivating light. The first was actor Patric Knowles (1911-1995), who was at the peak of his career in the 1940s and 1950s, dazzling film enthusiasts with romance and adventure movies on the big screen.
The second was Edwin Knowles pottery, makers of beautiful dishware that set the scene for memorable meals every day of the year. One of the prettiest patterns that they made in their 60-year production run was this one called Romance.
Romance indeed. There's a lot to love about this vintage set of luncheon plates. Made in 1959 in Newell, West Virginia, this set features softly shaded florals in the color palette of pink, grey, teal, sage, and butter yellow.
Rimmed with a gold stripe at the edge, these plates were wonderful choices for 1950s wedding china, everyday dining, and special occasions. Equally at home entertaining the ladies at a summer garden party as well as spoiling a sweetheart during a romantic Valentine's Day dinner in winter, the Romance pattern offered lots of inspiration for tabletop styling throughout the year, and still very much does so.
Today, it's a hard-to-find pattern. Understandably so, given its beautiful arrangement. Who would want to part with such an eye-catching set? Here In The Vintage Kitchen, we especially love this color palette, which marries pastel shades with delicately vibrant pink roses— an unusual shade that sits somewhere on the color scale between orchid and raspberry.
So pretty for wedding decor, interior styling and a bevy of romantic dinner parties with friends and family, this beauty of a collection promises to bring an extra bit of romance to your every day.
