Vintage 1950s Homer Laughlin Rose & Poppy Pattern Platter circa 1954
{HISTORY}
For over thirty years, from the 1920s to the 1950s, the Rose & Poppy pattern was a popular choice for kitchens across the country.
First designed by Crooksville Pottery in Crooksville, Ohio, this pretty white, yellow, and coral floral pattern was taken over by Homer Laughlin in the 1930s. Homer Laughlin placed it on a wide variety of different dishware shapes, including the Kwaker shape, which became a promotional giveaway pattern for Colgate-Palmolive products during the early to mid-20th century.
This Rose & Poppy platter features Homer Laughlin's Republic shape, defined by a wavy, crimped edge and artistic Art Deco embossing. Made in 1954 in Newell, West Virginia, this platter is big in size, making it the perfect candidate for Thanksgiving turkey presentation, large roasts, and any type of food meant for a crowd.
Colors include lemon yellow, coral, brick, black, spring green, and bright white against an ivory background. A very unique time traveler across three decades, in that it retained its black color palette, which was so popular during the 1920s and early 1930s, it is one of the few antique patterns that was still so engaging it was printed on more modern, vintage dish shapes. That makes it a lovely combination between old and new. And to make this pattern even more appealing, when it was paired with Homer Laughlin's Virginia Rose shape, it was renamed Olivia.
Fun for collectors in all its various shapes and states, this pattern is particularly great for amassing a set of mismatched pieces all featuring the same florals but different details in the composition of each piece.
