This ware is as beautiful as any tableware, and its added utility for oven use makes it invaluable to the thoughtful hostess... (from a 1932 advertisement for Crooksville Bak-In dishware)

{HISTORY}

Made by Crooksville China Company in Crooksville, Ohio in 1938, this warm and sunny floral platter was part of the Euclid pattern, which featured an embossed fruit motif around the rim and an off-center pink and yellow floral bouquet accented with teal flowers and grey-green leaves. 

Heavy and thick-walled, this platter was part of Crooksville's Pantry Bak-In series featuring kitchenware that could go from fridge to oven to table. Touting an oven-proof, non-crazing, smooth glazed finish, Pantry Bak-In pieces were the ultimate in pretty efficiency when it came to multi-use serving pieces in the kitchen.

It is fun to think that this platter was made during the Great Depression years and has managed to survive history's tumultuous events in such lovely and vibrant condition. Crooksville China, unfortunately, didn't fare as well. They operated from 1902 until 1959 when the pottery officially closed its doors,  which makes this platter not only a wonderful example of 20th-century Ohio artistry but also a beautiful artifact that has successfully navigated 90 years of time travel.

{CONDITION}

In lovely vintage condition, this platter contains no chips or cracks with the exception of an age-old pencil-point-sized chip on the backside of the platter near the left handle. This chip cannot be seen from the front and is barely noticeable on the back. The gold stripe around the rim is wearing slightly in some spots and there is a light utensil mark on one of the yellow flowers, The floral bouquet is crisp and clear and the colors are vibrant.
