There is no great meal unless it is shared with family or friends. Jacques Pepin

{HISTORY}

Vintage and antique creamers come in all shapes and sizes from single serving petites to big bowled beauties meant for sharing. This antique pink rose creamer falls in the latter category. With its ability told just a smidge under two cups of milk or cream, it is of the serving kind that was meant for a crowd of cups at coffee or tea time. Made in France by Charles Ahrenfeldt between 1894-1930, it has been privy to over 100 years of break times and conversation, planned parties and impromptu get-togethers. And possibly it has cycled through life with more than one purpose - perhaps an impromptu vase for garden cuttings or a party holder for flatware or simply a prized piece for display. Creamers have a very magical way of always making themselves useful no matter what the occasion.

While the pattern has yet to be identified, it is marked on the bottom with the Charles Ahrenfeldt backstamp, which denotes the work of the father/son team known as senior and junior. Charles A., Sr. was a cosmopolitan man of the world. Born in Germany in 1807, he moved to France in 1840 and developed a porcelain factory in Limoges of which he exported products to New York City. His son Charles Jr. took over operation of the French factory following his fathers death in the late 1890's and the Ahrenfeldt brand remained a fixture in the 20th century dish market until it closed in 1969.
