{HISTORY}

Delicate and summery, this pastel pattern was one of the most popular of the early 20th century. From French porcelain to Austrian dinnerware to American restaurant ware, these swags of pink and purple florals, with their fringy leaves and loosely gathered bouquets, graced dishware and tabletops of all shapes and sizes, near and far, during the early 1900s.

This specific platter, a large one measuring 15” inches in length, was made by Homer Laughlin in 1926 and was part of their Hudson shape series. Featuring shades of lavender, celadon, dove grey, and ballet pink, it’s enhanced with a gold rim, subtle embossing, and a deeply scalloped shoulder. Not unlike the popularity of the pattern, Hudson was the first dish shape design in Homer Laughlin's history to be in continuous production for more than two decades. A winning combination of pretty florals and a pretty shape, it’s no wonder this was a classic style that lasted throughout the Victorian and Edwardian eras and beyond.

The king of American potteries, Homer Laughlin knew their industry and their customers. As respected leaders in their marketplace for over 150 years, they have been manufacturing dishware since 1871.  When it comes to vintage and antique pieces, we always like to say that Homer Laughlin made a pattern to suit every person's unique taste, thanks to their prolific output and their innate ability to understand the style and aesthetic that American buyers loved best. They were also prolific in their output of pieces within each pattern too. Serving platters in this pink floral ran the gamut in size, inch by inch, all the way up to 17" inches, ensuring that the 1920s table was outfitted properly for all types of serving situations.

Hefty in weight, this one weighs in at 3.5 pounds, making it an ideal platter size for heavier foods like roasts, chicken, small turkeys, root vegetables, squash, and the like. It is also a great size for wall, shelf, and cupboard display too.
