{HISTORY}

Hand-painted with pink, lavender, and pale grey bachelor button flowers, this set of antique bone dishes feature a pretty scalloped edge, a soft cream-colored background, and a myriad of delicate, aged crazing marks.

Reminiscent of the moon, these crescent-shaped dishes are the prettiest servers for a host of modern-day menu items. Originally they were used to hold discarded chicken, fish, and other bones at each place setting, but today they make lovely mini serving trays for nuts, olives, charcuterie, citrus slices, cookies, tea biscuits, or anything else small and sharable.

Given their moon shape and pretty scalloped edge, we also like these four for decorating purposes. They make handy trinket, soap, and organizer dishes, as well as picnic plates, mini bedside trays and food prep dishes. We once knew an interior designer who hung bone dishes just like this on the wall above each of her four young girls’ beds, like moon art to encourage sweet dreams at night. All that being said, for such pretty specfic dishes there are an ample number of posibilities on how to incorpoarte them into your modern-day space.

All four dishes feature a slightly different arrangement of flower placement and bouquet size, making each one unique in appearance. Unmarked as to maker, they are similar in design to many patterns produced by early 20th-century potteries, including Sazerat, Herman Ohme, Haviland, and Johnson Brothers, making them especially fun and eye-catching for mismatched antique dishware collections and table decor.
