Antique Green Poppy Floral Plate - Art China by Taylor Smith Taylor circa 1915
Made during the early years of Taylor Smith Taylor's production history, this vibrant green plate featuring red, white, and yellow poppy flowers was part of their Art China series which was popular from 1905-mid-1920s. As much a piece of wall art as a functional dish, this stylish series embraced bright colors, dynamic shapes and bold designs meant to highlight and enhance interior decor in more ways than one.
Colors include bright British green, tomato red, cranberry, butter, spring green, celery, mint, amethyst, and apricot. A delicately embossed design enhances the scalloped rim. Depending on how you chose to incorporate this heirloom into your space, it is a springboard for all sorts of possibilities. An entire room could be inspired by this color palette as well as a pretty dessert or two.
Red poppies have long been associated with remembrance, especially during WWI, but other poppy colors like the shades included in this bouquet symbolize love, innocence, growth, and optimism - all lovely sentiments to project in kitchens and dining areas.
