Antique French Terracotta Glazed Water Pitcher - circa 1850s-1880s (Presumed)
{HISTORY}
Cheers to the mystery of a beautiful antique! This terracotta glazed water pitcher bears no maker's mark or date code or country of origin stamp, so in such cases, after much research, we are left to make some educated guesses about its provenance and its history.
In the case of this beauty, we suspect that it was made in the Savoie region of France around the mid-to-late 1800s. It features a beautiful cream-colored floral pattern with varying emerald green splotches and a pinched lip.
Authentically aged with a wonderful patina, this pitcher is a deep orange in color, that perfect shade of rusty autumn that provokes thoughts of colorful fall foliage, pumpkins displays and bonfire nights.
Double-glazed on both the inside and out, it is very shiny with a unique shape that includes a long neck, and bulbous belly that tapers at the base. With its authentic scuffing around the rim and a handle that has been repaired at the bottom edge, this heavy piece, despite its handle repair, is quite strong and sturdy.
Handmade and very unique in pattern and shape, this antique pitcher is a beauty all on its own, but it also would make a lovely vase for fresh cut flowers, autumn blooms nad rustic winter wheat or branch bouquets. Primitive, artistic and age-old in aesthetic, it's a true conversation piece and a unique heirloom for the pottery collector.

{CONDITION}
In lovely antique condition, this pitcher bears all the authenticity of a terracotta jug that has been traveling the world for close to 200 years. There are small scuffs along the edge of the rim where the glaze has worn off, revealing the terracotta beneath. The handle at one point was broken at the bottom section where it meets the bulbous belly, but was repaired and is securely reattached to the pitcher. Other than the handle, there are no cracks in any other areas. Please see photos.
