{HISTORY}

Ida Bailey Allen (1875-1973), America's Martha Stewart of the early to mid 20th century, was an incredible authority on the home-cooking scene. The granddaughter of a New England sea captain, Ida started a cooking school in Massachusetts in the 1910s, then in New York in the 1920s. She wrote newspaper columns and recipes and had her own radio show. She published over 50 books throughout her lifetime, and taught Americans not only how to eat well, but also how not to waste food.

In the 1920s, she teamed up with the Corn Products Refining Co and created this cookbook centered around corn and its subsequent variations... shortening, syrup, oil and starch. In her efforts to expel all that she could out of a single ingredient, it is easy to understand her fascination with multi-dimensional corn and all of its many possibilities. 

This cookbook  showcases them all. From baked goods to breakfast foods, luncheon tips to dinner menus, and even some cleaning advice, Ida shares a plethora of information regarding corn infused recipes in this petite book of 109 pages. She covers with great interest, history and tradition, recipes and nutrition, and home-keeping solutions for the well-intentioned 1920s woman, showcasing how corn products can be utilized in so many different and interesting ways. 

Unique recipes include Shirred Eggs with Cream, Fruit Cake Pudding, Chiffonade Dressing, Spanish Casserole, Scotch Cup Cakes, Rye Fritters, Creamed Beef, Griddle Cakes and Health Muffins.

{CONDITION}

In lovely, almost-antique condition, this cookbook is bright and clean both inside and out with no cooking spots, stains or notations. The exterior spine has worn away, a common weak spot in almost all of these cookbooks that we've encountered so far, The binding is very tight though and all pages are intact. Please see photos.
