Food adds a lot of style to life. Judith Olney

{HISTORY}

It's always fun when a passion for cooking captures the hearts of several members of a family. Such is the case with Judith Olney who was sister-in-law to famous French foodie Richard Olney (1927-1999). Trained in catering in London, Judith also spent time alongside Richard in his house in France where the two of them celebrated the simple art of cooking good fresh food with good fresh ingredients. Teaching cooking classes at her home base in North Carolina, one of Judith's most favorite seasons in the kitchen was Summer, when the garden was abundant, flowers bloomed everywhere and dappled sunlight offered up its own ambiance. That love led to her creation of this cookbook simply titled Summer Food, which was published in 1978.

Inside, it features food that is lighter in consistency, less time-consuming in preparation, and centered around shopping for most ingredients in the garden instead of the grocery store. With a nod toward European cuisine, these recipes were tested both in her cooking classes in NC, and in her home kitchen to ensure ease of use and practical technique. A special chapter at the end of the book focuses on herb gardening and offers suggestions, tips, and tricks for making a successful kitchen gardener out of all readers.
