{HISTORY}

Published in 1981, this beautiful presentation style cookbook captures the essence of provincial-style cooking explored via a dozen different regions throughout France. Compiled and tested by Anne Willan, the British-American cooking instructor and founder of La Varenne Cooking School in Paris, each recipe was thoroughly tested by Anne, her students and her fellow instructors at the school in order to offer readers and home cooks a precise and authentic cooking experience. 

Enhanced by color photography and black and white illustrations, this cookbook also comes with a silk ribbon marker, illustrated maps, introductions on the unique, culinary landscape of all regions and notes on standout vegetables of the area.

Equally fun, in that we have two exact first edition copies of this cookbook available, this would be an especially lovely companion project for two intrepid cooks who live far apart but who want to celebrate a shared dining experience by cooking their way through Anne's version of France together. 

In the true spirit of hospitality and education, we are certain Anne couldn't have thought of a more desirable outcome for such a labor of love. Having traveled extensively throughout France, Anne searched high and low for the truly traditional recipes tucked away in the hearts and minds of the country's most humble cooks.
