A sweet love story steeped in history...

{HISTORY}

With an origin story that dates back to Italy in 1905, this vintage opaline jar is the product of one family's love and lore that has spanned an entire century.

Created by Rachele Fabbri in the early 1900s, legend states that her shopkeeper husband, Gennaro was so smitten with the taste of his wife's sweet tart syrupy fruit concoction that he presented her with a specially made blue and white ceramic jar in which to store those magical fruits of her labor.

Made of local wild cherries handpicked by Rachele in their hometown of Portomaggiore, Italy and sweetened with a secret family recipe, Amarena Fabbri has been delighting, cooks, bakers, and cocktail creators for generations ever since Gennaro introduced it into his shop in 1915. Uniquely packaged in a petite vase-shaped milk glass jar with blue florals, this design is reminiscent of the original jar that Gennaro presented to Rachele after that exciting first taste.

Still run by the Fabbri family and still offering their famous Wild Cherries in Syrup for sale in the same blue and white container, their classic jar packaging has varied only slightly across the 20th century. If you were to go and buy a jar of Amarena Fabbri cherries today, you'd find a nutritional breakdown chart and bar code printed on the jar along with a picture of the cherries themselves. But this jar, made between the 1960s-1980s, contains none of those modern hallmarks. The blue floral pattern wraps all the way around the jar uninterrupted, the ingredients are listed in Italian at the bottom of the jar,  the lid contains Italian directions for unscrewing the top, and the location of the Fabbri manufacturing factory in Bologna, Italy.

A gorgeous addition to blue and white dishware collections, this jar adds a bit of international romance to any kitchen. We also love it for shelf display and for use as a fresh cut flower vase.
